The Pioneers: Eric Stanton

I don't claim to be a fetish historian. Only a zealous lifelong fan. Though I've rabidly consumed all of the art I can get my greedy little mitts on from all of the newest and best artists I can find, I have a very special place in my heart for a few of the past generation of artists. People who I think of as pioneers.

Eric Stanton was certainly one of those. If you aren't familiar with his work, you owe it to yourself to go check him out. He has an incredibly large catalog of fetish art that runs a large gamut of kinks, from a long and talented career. Sadly, he is not with us anymore, but he has a legacy that will live on beyond any of you or I.

I want to talk about one kink in particular that I credit him for starting in me. I don't know if he is the first artist ever to dream up a particular idea, but he is most definitely the first I ever saw do it. The idea: putting a mask with a face on it that looks content and impassive on a victim who is actually in distress.

This concept exploded the naughty center of my brain the first time I saw it, and it has been a hard kink of mine ever since. Some of my own art features this idea, and I've seen plenty of other artists playing with it too.

I don't know quite what it is, but the idea of a person who is unhappy in their bondage, and may even want to scream being gagged, and hooded in a way that makes passers by think they don't mind, or even that they are happy. It is so crazy hot.

Another thing Stanton would pair this concept with sometimes is for the victim to have their real arms tied behind their back and hidden while a fake pair of arms hang casually at their sides, thus allowing a very bound victim to walk around people who don't even know they're a victim.

Gawerd! So sexy!

There are far to many great pictures from Stanton to choose, so here are a couple of my favorites.

  1. Eric Stanton's art was a major influence on my developing kinkiness, starting with the days when I was a confused teenager and fixated on his paperback covers, up to the time years later when I supplied text for some of his last books. A true giant.
